Description: The Concept Attainment Model, or C-A for short, is a teaching model designed to help students of all ages elaborate and reinforce their understanding of concepts and practice critical thinking skills.
Reflection on in-class presentation: The Concept Attainment model (C-A model), was demonstrated in an elementary English Language-Arts class. In this lesson the students would learn how to recognize the short /e/ sound in a list of examples and non-examples. The teachers began the lesson by presenting the material as a guessing game, in an effort to gain the student's attention. After the game, the students were shown a "yes" and "no" column on white board and were asked if a particular word had a short /e/ sound. The students were instructed to participate by telling the teachers if they believed a word had a short /e/ sound. After this activity, the students were instructed to complete a worksheets at their desks, this exercise was used to assess the student's learning. This model was presented effectively in this class because the teachers identified a topic, used real and non-examples to help students form a hypothesis and then the hypothesis was reinforced of changed throughout the activity.
